Mastering Your First Impression

First impressions have always been put on the priority list for individuals who are trying to network and grow their business or personal brand. According to Dictionary.com an impression is “the first and immediate effect of an experience or perception upon the mind; sensation.” Their second definition is that an impression is “a strong effect produced on the intellect, feelings, conscience, etc.” Not learning and improving your first impressions can cause a company or individual to miss out on opportunities, possibly tarnish a reputation, or cause one to become insecure because they are not getting the results that they desire. When developing a business or personal brand, mastering your first impression can have benefits like an increase in customer retention, new job opportunities, and an increase in one’s chances of developing great business and partnership relationships. If you want to master your first impression you have to create an experience based on your self-perception while being conscience of your ability over the effects of others’ feelings and intellect of you.

Although you can’t control what others think of you, you can control how you present yourself. First impressions are more than just elevator pitches and on-camera personals. Not knowing how you want to be perceived, or not caring at all about how you’re represented can have anyone missing out on life-changing opportunities. Opportunities like job positions, brand deals, and record-breaking sales. Being careless about your first impression can also cause some individuals to not be happy with the results of their dating life. Someone might say that they want to meet their future spouse, but if their first impressions on dates aren’t presenting that they will struggle to get the wanted results. Not mastering your first impression can cause an individual to develop a victim mentality. If someone has a limiting belief that people are rude to them, or if they believe that they are shy, they are going to present themselves in a way that brings them results that prove that. Believing that first impressions do not matter is a limiting belief within itself.

Although you can’t control what others think of you, you can control what you think of yourself. The benefit of a good first impression is endless. New customers, job opportunities, an expansion of the network, and net worth all tie into mastering your first impression. I personally have learned the importance of perfecting my first impression. In my first two years of working, I gained the trust of my sports general manager with which I became the new sports director, received multiple scholarships, and enter into a great life-changing relationship. My first impression isn’t perfect but it has improved and I have seen improvement in my career, love, and overall self-confidence. Working on how you present yourself first can over help your name grow and protect your reputation as a company or personal brand.

Although you can’t control what others think of you, you can control your personal self-care or brand customer experience. If you want to master your first impression you have to create an experience based on your self-perception while being conscience of your ability over the effects of others’ feelings and intellect of you. But if you’re not protecting how you present yourself as a brand you can tarnish your reputation, which makes mastering your first impress useless because others will have already perceived you based on other people’s experiences. Protecting your reputation by making sure you are on time, great attitude or customer service, and leaving a greeting with impact can truly set you apart. How you leave someone with an impactful experience all up to your ability to be relatable, inspired, and complimentary. You don’t have to be a kiss-up, just treat others with the experience you want to experience. First impressions all boil down to your self-concept. You cant master first impressions with a limiting self-concept of your personal brand or business. Self-concept is just your own perception of yourself. So if you see yourself as a “small” business then you be treated like one. Because your actions will align with your thoughts. remember your mind has to tell your body to move first.
